3D character commissions?

So I'm sending out an query here: My friend [livejournal.com profile] schnitzalted is a 3D artist and he wants to make some extra money plying his skills. Unfortunately there seems to be less of a market for the stuff he has been modeling, mainly science stuff. So we were joking around about him taking furry commissions, since he seemed interested in the fact I've made a pretty good supplementary income with my work.

So I'm curious if anyone here knows anyone out there who does 3D commissions, and beyond just furry stuff because he can do just about anything (models for people, creatures, RPGs and the like)

So does anyone know of where he could get some business for his type of art? If you are curious to see some just check his journal.

We talking clay models or CG?

Sadly there are few people offering such mediums so they are able to charge a king's ransom for even shoddy work so there are equally few buyers.

I'm sure I can find him work in a couple weeks when my funding comes in if the price is right.

I dunno, he looks pretty talented from what I saw. But I think most people would have to see him do actual anthro stuff before they would want to buy it, y'know? :3

I'd say that he'd probably have a decent demand based on the uniqueness. But it is a rare art medium and like Lupercus said that can cause high prices. Honestly he might have to sell himself short as well as produce a host of examples. He could even make an FA account. *shrug*

But if he's not a furry and doesn't enjoy making anthro art I'd really personally reccomend against him trying to make money off if it. I think people need to enjoy and relate to what they're doing to really do a good job. He might get burnt out on doing weird animal people pretty quick. XD

Well he can do more than animal people stuff. He can do dragons and animals and even people, all which he enjoys modeling. Honstly it is just making 3D stuff he likes, and while furry is a little alien to him, I think he could get into it. But right now we are just scheming how he could make more money off his art, possibly outside of just furry stuff

Oh no, I realized that he makes all sorts of stuff BUT furry stuff basically. I'm just saying if he's aiming to make money off the fandom and take furry commissions he might get tired of all the anthro art.

Uh, like no furries will pay what his time is actually worth. From my experience furries tend to be cheap bastards unless he manages to get really famous in the fandom.
I suppose he could offer one off painting type pieces (which means he wouldn't have to waste time on the stuff thats not seen and rigging), but there would still be the texturing and/or painting and fixing up, depending on how good they are with 2D.
Animations are also potentially good, but goodluck finding anyone who will pay for them :D

The medium he might be able to make some money with would be Second Life, doing avatars and custom avatars or whatever.
